Phaesant-Hero.jpg

Pheasant

This piece was worked wax in the spring of 2020. The pheasant is an evocation of a proud bird in its prime, presenting itself as dominant as it struts across the countryside.

The work itself is intensely worked, with applied heat and metal spatulas producing hard incisive mark making, generating a forceful sculptural pose. The length of this piece creates a strong architectural wedge softened by the curve of the breast and detail in the head.

“I  enjoyed working with the wax in all it’s different states concurrently,  using  a blowtorch to heat areas to make the material  malleable  and water to cool areas down so I could carve in detail. I love the drips and marbling left on the surface from using hot tools.”

Pheasant II

This piece was worked wax in 2022 to act as a companion piece. In opposition in stance but also form, this straight and angler piece is constructed from a series of strong planes giving it a wonderfully contemporary feel.

“I really enjoy the how these works interact.”
