Barn Owl was a winter project worked in clay next to a wood burning stove. Holly’s intention was to catch a likeness of a barn owl while keeping the true sense of the sharp attentiveness of an efficient hunter.
It was important for Holly to work this piece on a branch, not only to give the barn owl a sense of place, but to elevate the sculpture to strengthen the gaze of the owl as it scans the area.
“What I appreciated most about this project was the opportunity to learn more about the barn owl. Whilst working on this project I discovered our neighbours have an unobstructed view of a pair of barn owls living in their barn, returning each year to bring on a family. This was a superb chance to study the animal and learn about their family dynamics.”
